Allam Marine’s humble beginnings manufacturing generators and compressors can be traced back to 1934, when the enterprise was established in Manchester, England. According to Allam Marine, its successful introduction of the CKD engine and alternator supply concept in 1989 remains one of the most innovative and successful business models in the industry. Its long-standing manufacturing heritage has lasted for almost a century on the backs of modernisation, reliability and reputation.

Now an award-winning manufacturer and supplier of power generation machinery, components and control systems, Allam Marine has consistently manufactured products having high engineering design content, such as special application diesel powered units.

The Mighty 5000 Series Packs A Punch

“Allam Marine and Perkins® 5000 Series have had a relationship going back to 1992, when Allam Marine was first incorporated,” says Allam Marine’s head of engineering, Simon Woodward. “The fourth engine that we built into a generator was a 4.136. So, it’s been ongoing for quite a long while.”

Years have passed since Allam Marine first began using Perkins engines, and the necessity for high performance and power has grown exponentially since the millennium. Thanks to the evolution of Perkins technology and design, Allam Marine has been able to adjust to changing times and consistently meet the needs of its customers.

Today, Allam Marine relies on the Perkins® 5000 Series. Engineered for power generation with state-of-the-art components, features and performance to match customer demands, the 5000 Series is made with high-end parts and advanced technology designed to supply cost-effective electrical power, whether to critical power applications, prime continuous or standby power. It’s just what Allam Marine’s bigger-sized customers, such as airports, are looking for.

“People want economical solutions, but also people want that little bit of extra for all the main big installations for hospitals, for refineries, when they run their generators nonstop,” says Simon. “They can get all the readings they want—especially if they incorporate the remote monitoring, the connectivity system. This allows anybody connected to that generator to have the facility to look at the running hours and look at everything that’s happening with the engine.”

Reliable Distribution Makes A World Of Difference

Allam Marine works on a variety of engine applications across different industries. According to Simon, the company builds a lot of small engines for mobile phone companies, as well as large engines for manufacturing facilities all over the world. Thus, the delivery of the engines is tantamount to Allam Marine’s success and its ability to effectively serve its customers.

Collaborating with Perkins has been beneficial for Allam Marine in multiple ways, not just engine design—from working with the A&I department at the start of the design process to allow for seamless integration to the eventual monitoring and servicing of generators long after they’ve been installed. It’s also been advantageous for its customers, full stop.

“Perkins as a brand is a very reliable brand, we’ve found,” adds Simon. “We’ve sold to well over 100 different countries, and knowing that Perkins is there to offer backup and support is brilliant. The distributor network is essential.”

The Power Of Collaboration

Perkins and Allam Marine have been working together for over two decades now. Allam Marine has incorporated thousands of Perkins engines into its generator sets over the years. It’s a relationship that continues to grow even more as industry developments and technology advancements evolve.

“I do see the relationship between Perkins and Allan Marine strengthening,” says Simon. “We get quite a bit of information from them. They come up here to look at their engines. So, I think it’s a relationship that is very successful, and long may it continue.”
