The company is present in the respective territories with legally independent companies, each operating under the ‘BU Power Systems’ brand. Powernews caught up with BUPS distributor principal, Franz Focks, to learn more about its work with customers and how to meet the team at bauma Munich 2025.
Offering customised engine solutions for industry, construction, agriculture, material handling as well as for power generation and ships, BUPS employs more than 200 people across Europe, each of whom are focused on delivering professional product advice and comprehensive service for all engine needs. This business model means Perkins-powered customers benefit from the services provided by an intercultural business partner with local proximity and from the advantages of a Europe-wide, highly specialised group of companies.
“The service portfolio of BUPS extends from engine sales through spare parts service to individual services,” explains Franz. “The sales service includes a qualified product consulting with a conceptual drawing, prototype development, product customisation through application management, sourcing and training. A comprehensive after-sales service ensures professional engine support. Through short reaction times, professional management and an optimal availability of spare parts, the team works hard to ensure we meet the highest Perkins service standard.”
Franz continues: “Meeting the requirements of our OEMs is the primary goal of BUPS. The company strives to deliver the optimum engine solution for every application, no matter how complex or unusual the customer needs are. For every new customer project, the requirements are analysed carefully. Our highly skilled application engineers support and advise the OEMs comprehensively in implementing the optimum engine solution to meet their objectives.
“As a solution provider, our customers benefit from the range of services and expertise we are able to offer. These include the optimisation of the installation process, ensuring maximum efficiency. All components are tested according to the manufacturers' specifications, ensuring reliability and performance. The assembly and installation processes are simplified, decreasing complexity and time requirements. Additionally, BUPS minimises parts variety, which not only reduces storage requirements but also enhances inventory management. The reduction in tool costs is another key benefit, as fewer specialised tools are required for installation and maintenance. The documentation is also simplified, making it easier for customers to manage and maintain their systems. Products are carefully selected according to Perkins' specifications, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance. Finally, serviceability is a priority, allowing for easier maintenance and quicker repairs. All these elements contribute to overall cost optimisation, delivering greater value to customers.”
Over the last few years, BUPS has seen an increased customer demand for customised engine solutions that match the OEMs requirements. This continued to grow in 2024, when a staggering 84 percent of sold industrial engines were customised by BUPS and equipped with value-added components.
To optimise the service life of the engine, BUPS offers an extensive spare parts portfolio including maintenance parts such as filters, belts, rocker cover gaskets; overhauling kits including pistons, rings, bushes, bearings, gaskets; electric components such as alternators, glow plugs, switches and Perkins® Diesel Engine Oil. Customers using BUPS’ spare parts service receive genuine spare parts with the manufacturer’s warranty, each of which are precisely developed for the customer´s engine and are constantly being further developed. BUPS delivers both new parts and exchange components.
“Time is an important factor in our everyday work,” says Franz. “Fast and competent help from a reliable partner as well as a delivery of spare parts at short notice are essential for our customers. Thanks to optimised logistics processes, BUPS provides its customers with over 20,000 different Perkins genuine spare parts from our central warehouse in Ibbenbüren, Germany, within a short time. We also offer BU Power Express as a next day delivery solution for our territories located in the European Union.”
“BUPS offers a tailor-made expert service for engines in the fields of industry, agriculture and forestry, construction, emergency power and energy generation as well as for engines in combined heat and power plants,” explains Franz. “With short response times, professional processing, and high spare parts availabilities, our service meets the highest Perkins service standard. As a Level 3‑certified Perkins service partner, we ensure consistently high service quality. The fully-equipped service vans ensure prompt on-site assistance. And if the damage turns out to be even more complex, we provide our customers with a service replacement engine.”
In its international training centre, BUPS provides unique engine know-how. BUPS carries out regular training courses for employees of the OEM service organisations as well as for its own employees. “The BUPS team is convinced that the combination of qualified employees and technically high-quality products form the basis for satisfied customers,” adds Franz proudly.
